Jim Shields

Jim passed away March 2, 2020 after a battle with cancer.

James David Shields, 72, of Lebanon, formerly of Hershey, passed away on March 2, 2020 at Penn State Health, Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

He was born March 20, 1947 in Philadelphia, son of the late William Erwin Shields, MD and Evelyn Kathrin (Landis) Shields.

Jim was a graduate of York Junior College and Penn State University, Capital Campus. He was a research associate for the PA Department of Public Welfare in Long Term Care, but has loved retirement for a dozen years.  He was an avid “do-it-yourselfer”, but his passion was scuba diving, enjoying that hobby for 34 years.  He was a member of the Divers Alert Network.

Jim is survived by his best friend and companion of 33 years, Janet Hunter Shields of Lebanon; half-siblings, Debra Lennon of Glenside, Steven Shields of Havertown, and W. Scott Shields of Pueblo, CO and their families.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 13 at 11AM in the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, 88 Lucy Ave in Hershey.  The family will begin receiving guests at 10AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Habitat for Humanity at www.habitat.org/support or the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.
