Comments:

I went to college at MIT, where I discovered how wonderful the brain was and therefore decided to become a neuroscientist. I stayed at MIT for my PhD and for my first postdoc. While there, I married David Udin, whose need to avoid being drafted partly accounted for our long stay in Boston. Eventually we tore ourselves away and got to spent 2 fabulous years in London, England, where I did another postdoc. We then moved to Buffalo, where I'm on the faculty of the State University of NY. We worried that Buffalo was next to the Arctic Circle, but that's actually Minneapolis. Buffalo really isn't nearly as snowy and cold as everybody thinks. Also, 12 years in Boston really toughened me up. The summers here are like the Garden of Eden, too.

In 1985, we adopted 2 kids from Korea, ages 2 and 4. Going from 0 to 2, especially 2 mobile, non-English-speaking children in one fell swoop is pretty disorienting, but we all adjusted.

I'm very involved in my local community association, and my particular activity is an "Aging in Place" program to help older people remain in the community, keeping safe, healthy, and involved. My husband's retired, teaches Tai Chi and makes wonderful pottery. I'll retire maybe in a few years if I ever feel that I've saved up enough money to last me until I'm 100 years old, which might actually happen.

School Story:

I really didn't like high school. I was extremely glad to get out. I counted the days until graduation. For the last 6 months, I counted the hours.

My biggest regret about my high school years is that I did not fully appreciate the good qualities of my classmates. I am very glad that I've attended some of the reunions and have had the chance to reconnect with many of those people and to gain a better sense of their characters.

College was wonderful. It was a dream come true.

What elementary school did you attend?

Chestnutwold

Do you remember the 60s?

Yes

On Facebook

Yes

I lived on "X" street during my time at HHS

Cedarbrook Road, near Merion Golf Course, but not so near that we had to duck golf balls.

What is your favorite song from 1965?

Satisfaction. Also I have a deep fondness for "Norwegian Wood" because I first heard it when my not-yet husband played me a pre-release copy of Rubber Soul and we both congratulated each other on recognizing the sitar on the album.

I agree to have my address, email, and phone number on a class list available to classmates. It will not be available to the public and not to be used for any solicitations.

Yes

I retired in Jan. 2022. I thought I'd really miss being in my lab, but much to my surprise, I don't. I keep very busy with lots of volunteer work (my union, my neighborhood association, my alumni association chapter, etc.) And if I get sleepy in the afternoon, I can take a nap; when I was still working, I'd have to catch up on my sleep by snoozing through seminars. Actually, I slept through lots of classes in high school and in college, too. I never actually fell out of my chair, though.

I've finally decided to retire. Tuesday, 1/4/22 will be my last day, more or less. The "more or less" refers to the fact that I'll be able to keep doing some research because I'm lucky enough to have great collaborators here.
Best regards to all of you!
